Diabetes is a breakdown in the body's ability to control blood
sugar levels. High blood sugar levels in the form of glucose cannot be
controlled due to a failure of the pancreas to produce enough insulin;
this is type-1 diabetes, while type-2 diabetes is the inability to
produce effective insulin.
According to the National Diabetes
Information Clearing House (NDIC) the best part of 27 million US
Americans have diabetes. Those 20 years plus suffer the disease at the
ratio of 1 in 10, while over 65 year olds the incidence is 1 in 4
mm.
mm.
Out of the total diabetes population 90-95% accounts for type-2 diabetes. The incidence rates are alarmingly on the up. Contrary to orthodox medicine it has been said that type-2 diabetes can be reversed without the dependency on medication.
To begin with
Orthodox
medicine's approach regarding the type-2 diabetic diet of high
carbohydrates and low fats as a regimen doesn't help improve the
condition but makes it worse. The situation is this: the choice of more
ongoing carbohydrates leads to higher calories and higher glucose levels
resulting in weight gain due to conversion into fats storage, while the
higher glucose levels makes it even more difficult for the body's cells
to produce effective insulin for blood sugar regulation.
A whole
host of side effects manifest. This includes feeling worn down,
cardiovascular problems, blindness, impotence and damage to blood
vessels... However, an alternative solution has been suggested which has
proven to be effective.
Dietary changes and carbohydrates
Lowering
carbohydrates is a step in the right direction to reduce blood glucose
levels. Choose low glycemic index foods. That is, chose carbohydrate
foods that change to blood glucose relatively slower. My suggestion here
would be to look up low glycemic index foods and include in the diet.
This would include quality fresh fruits and vegetables of sorts. High
glycemic index Junk foods like sweets and biscuits would be best left
out. Having said that cinnamon is effective for promoting glucose
uptake.
Increase intake of fats
Slick advertising has given
fats a bad press over the years. Besides the consequences of this,
people not getting enough essential fats in their diet, poor quality
fats have also been pushed through like canola, rapeseed oil and
unhealthy trans-fats. Having said that, diabetes type-2 sufferers can
learn to discern the quality fats like for example coconut oil, omega-3
oils and increase the levels in their diet.
In short, if you are a
type-2 diabetic then lowering carbohydrate levels and increasing fats,
both in the form of quality food is the key. Get plenty of exercise;
drink plenty of good clean water, have a positive outlook on life, seek
the guidance of a qualified health practitioner along the way and
success in reversing type-2 diabetes could well be yours.
Always
remember, the above changes needed for reversing type-2 diabetes
requires dedication to changing the necessary habits over time.
